Origin: replica inspired by DONA MILITARIA of ancient Rome, “Dona” were the military rewards assigned to soldiers or valiant officers. These rewards were divided into two classes: dona maiora for particular acts of heroism dona minora to reward the soldiers or officers. The armillae were dona and in Roman culture the snake was a symbol of rebirth and renewal.
